VII - Evil
VII. Evil
[Replacement lesson by: Sopho Tremis]
===========
Sith is often called "evil" for who he/she is and/or for his/hers action. But what is evil? What action can be constituted as evil?
Most common definition is, "Absence of good". Which tells us nothing about nature of evil.
Some scholars are associating evil with some mystical adversary (like a story of Satan from Christian mythos). Others see it as simple corpus of immoral acts; Acts that increase harm and/or diminish happiness (in personal or global sense).
Later is very often connected to ethical principle of "common good". Overarching goodness of society (maybe even whole human race in general). But when it comes to identifying what the "common good" is, opinions differ widely.
===========
1) What is evil? Think about it from personal, moral, social standpoint. (500 words or more)
2) What actions do you consider to be most evil?
3) Is act evil by it's consequence only, or by intention (or maybe by both)?
4) Can evil act be justified? If so how?
5) Take your time, think about the questions asked - then respond in 500 words or more.
